Erasmus+ Capacity Building: INOW ASIA

Development of innovative training programmes for several levels for new water sector professionals in Southeast Asia

The primary aim of INOW ASIA is to provide water management training for a new generation of young professionals in Southeast Asia. This will involve acquiring solid multidisciplinary experience in sustainable water management, with an overall vision of the current and future challenges facing the sector. A specific approach to local needs and general skills required will prepare students to enter and lead the water sector.


INOW Asia is co-funded by the European Erasmus+ Capacity Building in Higher Education Programme. Capacity building projects in the field of higher education are transnational cooperation projects based on multilateral partnerships between higher education institutions located in countries taking part in the programme and eligible partner countries

Southeast Asia is regarded as a source of biodiversity that is facing environmental challenges due to a growing population (including continuous growth in tourism), traditional agricultural practices and climate change projections. In this part of Asia there is a critical need to develop programmes to train new professionals in water management.

The project is based on:
  • A problem-based learning approach: students from partner countries will be able to try out an innovative learning method that gives students hands-on experience reflecting on important issues.
  • Living labs: a research concept, an open, user-focused innovation ecosystem which often operates within a regional framework. The concept is based on a systematic approach to co-creation between users incorporating research and innovation processes. In the INOW Asia project these are referred to as "Water Living Labs".
  • Online courses: students will benefit from online courses, ensuring the long-term success of this training
  • Public/private partnerships: companies specialised in water management will be involved in the project to ensure that needs of South-eastern Asian countries are met in terms of entry in the professional world.
